WINNIBIGOSHISH
Try to pronounce that one.
That's why we call her Winnie.
She's 67,000 acres and has 141 MILES of shoreline. Some of you are driving less distance just to get there.

One reason that this lake is so desirable is because of it's location, being that it is fed by the Mississippi River. This is actually the widest part of the Mississippi River in the whole United States at 11 miles wide. That's why she's one of our favorites, it's a very unique fishery.

The Great Mississippi River starts in Itasca State Park and continues through the whole country, literally. It's drainage basin is the third largest in the whole world, and it pours straight into the Gulf of Mexico.

She's only getting to the Gulf of Mexico, through Lake Winnie!

Pine's Resort & Campground
We are happy to partner with the Pines Resort for our fishing report on Winnie. We want to share a handful of the highlights from their resort.

Lake Winnibigoshish has a reputation as one of the best ice fishing lakes in Minnesota, and The Pines Resort is recognized as one of the Best Ice Fishing Resorts in Minnesota with world class ice fishing for jumbo perch, walleye and crappies. Through the years Lake Winnie has become known as "the" lake to fish for jumbo perch through the ice. It also offers excellent walleye fishing, northern fishing and crappie fishing.

Summer Accomodations
During the summer months the Pines Resort offers 13 housekeeping cabins, nine seasonal RV campsites, and daily/weekly RV campsites set amidst a wooded shoreline of oak, maple, birch and pine on Lake Winnibigoshish.

After a long hard day of catching fish, you can choose to go back on shore and spend the night in one of their 13 cabins. All of their cabins have hot showers and come with fully furnished kitchens, along with bedding.

Talk about Minnesota Nice.

There is a shop there with the necessities available in case you forgot something. Nice area to sit down and enjoy an ice cream treat during the summer.
Huge Depth Range
We have a map below that shows where the Pine's Resort is located in comparison to the HUGE Lake Winnibigoshish. You'll notice it's right where the Mississippi River leaves the lake.

Fun history on this Lake- originally, this whole area was a bunch of farm fields. The Army Core of Engineers built a dam during the big logging boom back in the late 1880's. The dam was controlled to raise water levels for sending logs downriver. It's still managed today, however nowadays it's used to control water levels for the water levels for the tug boats and ferries down in the cities. It's very connected to the twin cities dams and plays a bigger role in the state's watershed than most realize.

The average depth is 15 feet but this lake ranges all the way to about 80 feet deep!
